Originally, Drax was a human named Arthur Douglas whose family was killed by Thanos. His spirit was placed into a powerful alien body designed to defeat Thanos.
In the MCU, Drax is a warrior seeking vengeance for the death of his wife and daughter at the hands of Ronan the Accuser on behalf of Thanos. He is known for his literal interpretations, lack of social awareness, and superhuman strength and durability.
